A somewhat busy Tuesday morning at the rocks - a few other intrepid photographers having the same idea.
Plenty of nice sized waves rolling in … the ocean water still so warm!
This was around 15 minutes before sunrise … a slow shutter speed required, catching that lovely flow!
Just after this the clouds lit up with a couple of extended neon pink rays!

‘Twas Blue Hour, with just enough swell to make for some great wave action! 🌊🌊🌊
Beecroft Peninsula … the northern headland of Jervis Bay, on Australia's east coast.
On the western and southern sides of the peninsula, steep sandstone cliffs rise out of the ocean, up to 91 metres at its southernmost point, Point Perpendicular.
You can just make out the historic Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, constructed in 1899, as it welcomes the Sun to a new day …
“Red Royalty”

Telopea speciosissima - my all time favourite Australian Native Flower!!
‘Waratah’ means red-flowering tree - sometimes their flower spikes can reach up to 3m high. It’s late spring when these bright red flowers appear, attracting plenty of bees, birds and humans!
I’ve tried growing these a few times, with varied success … might be time to try again, they are just so STUNNING!

I’ve been to Horse Head Rock 8 times now, all but one with my son Mitch. Fortunately for me, Photography and Camping/Hiking (and Banana Bread, Coffee, Music, Dark Beer, Schnitzels … ) are things we both enjoy. A few times a year we aim to catchup and enjoy these ‘things’ together.
Over the years, trips to the Far South Coast have featured, as we both have become obsessed with ‘getting the shot’ at Horse Head Rock! All we are asking for is for some decent sky colour, a reasonable tide and swell, and a reasonable coffee … that’s not true … we have to have a great coffee! 🤣
Well finally, 2022 got off to a great start with The Maker blessing us with some lovely sky colour, a 2m tide and large swell …oh, and we found a new coffee ‘dealer’ for our addiction! 😍
The Sun just about to rise over the Pacific Ocean …
From a glorious sunrise a couple of weeks back, viewed from a small, weathered ledge on the edge Minnamurra Headland.
Driving up from Berry an hour before sunrise, with hints of red already in the high cloud - max anticipation! :) This morning was going to be Special! During the shoot I met a young family who, on that day each year, go out to watch the sunrise in memory of their daughter/sister.
It was her birthday … she would have been 12 …
The silent company was very welcome … and very Special!

We'd managed to successfully coordinate a few days camping down south, and then some time back up in Berry. Some great catching up, with a run of 4 and 4:30am starts for sunrise, plus sunsets ... all well worth it!

A wet, foggy and rain filled day ... Perfect!
I was on my way back to the car after trudging around the bush, the rain was getting a lil’ heavier.
Then I saw off to the right this beautiful Fern, providing a window through the fog.
Had to stop!
From an awesome sunrise back in June ‘21. On a few of my shots, the focus was a bit off, blurred.
I liked the colour in some of those shots, so I applied even more ‘blur’ in processing … this is the result.
Another classic Summer Sunset, viewed from Gerroa, looking south along Seven Mile Beach.
Coolangatta Mountain stands out as a distinctive landmark on the Shoalhaven river plain.
Coolangatta takes its name from an Aboriginal word Culunghutti.
Gerroa & the northern end of the beautiful Seven Mile Beach - one of the few locations nearby I can spend the afternoon watching the sun go down over the ocean.
Low tide this day revealed these great Sand Trails, lit up by the setting sun.
Rainbow Lorikeet enjoying the nectar from our Flowering Gum Trees. Here at home our Dwarf Gum Trees are just coming into flower.
I think these larrikins love them as much as I do!
Well worth the early morning drive up the highway for a Photography catchup with my son Mitch.
Heading up over the Kiama Bends the soft red-ish glow out over the Pacific Ocean made promise of a cracking sunrise … Mother Nature did not disappoint! 😍

Over Spring and Summer they never fail to put on a stunning show, with both the Birds and the Bees loving them!

I headed up the highway this Friday morning, to Kiama,for sunset … hopeful for some amazing colour.
It certainly did not not disappoint. Almost no wind to speak of provided the perfect conditions for this wonderful reflection in the Continental Pool!

This shot was taken about 10mins before the “official” first light.
I was just about to start the walk up to the headland to shoot the sunrise, when I noticed the slightest of reflected colour in the river.
I quickly set up my gear, and took a shot that lasted 8 seconds … it was so dark!
However, I was confident that the sensor in my camera, coupled with shooting in RAW format (not JPEG), would capture enough detail to hopefully tease out a reasonable image later. 🙏

Another shot on my PBL (photo bucket list!) - the Milky Way down at the Boat Harbour Rock Pool.
Skies were clear of cloud, not much wind - I’d planned to just to set up out the end of the pool, a quiet night shooting stars! 🌌😎
I just didn’t count on the large swell sending waves crashing over the edge of the pool, me trying to hold my tripod steady! 😟
I’ve read somewhere that if you are doing Seascapes, and not getting wet, you’re probably not doing it right! :)
Suffice to say I must have been “doing it right” this night … soaked! 🌊
Up early for a planned sunrise shoot at Bombo Quarry, however a huge band of low cloud out over the horizon caused quick rethink. We headed up to Saddleback Mtn lookout - a great view watching the light fill the shadows in the valleys.
Then snapped this on the way back home .... the cloud was still there !

Gum Trees n Thick Misty Fog! 😁
Exploring forests on a wet, foggy morning, no one else around, just me and the birds, bugs and I guess a few snakes.
Love how the fog really brings out the colour of these Gum trees ( I’m guessing Eucalyptus saligna ), as well as the surrounding foliage plants.
A lot of rain recently. A great time to re-visit the waterfalls from my old stomping grounds.
Fitzroy Falls was putting on a show, while Belmore was engulfed in dense fog.
I couldn’t see more than a couple of metres in front of me, let alone across the gorge to the falls.
So I waited … and waited. After about 30 minutes, I could hear the leaves above moving, and then felt a slight breeze coming from the right.
Another 5 minutes and for a couple of minutes, Belmore Falls was revealed.
